Thanks Lamp...we have much more to come...including LimpWrist(ex Los Crudos) coming in the next couple of weeks. You know..running a DIY space
like we do is ALOT of work. We try to support bands and the scene the way we would want to be treated when we are on tour. Bands who come to Redrum get fed..they get beer/soft drinks...we help find them places to sleep if they are touring...we do TONS of flyering/promotion..and we give them 90 percent of the door. We provide the PA and as much gear as we can lend to help bands out...AND we take ALL the risks of throwing shows that the cops could close down at anytime.I challenge you to find ANY place where you get that kind of deal in the area...see if you get that next time you play the Living Room or As220. Redrum is NOT a nightclub...it is an underground gig space...Redrum is a collective of musicians trying to support fellow musicians. So I take great offence to people talking shit about what we are trying to do...but then its always the people who do the least..that shit talk the most. I'm wondering xMikeX..what exactly you do to give back to the scene? I have been putting on shows in Rhode Island for over 16 years now...we started back in 91 doing shows in our front yard in the woods of Northern Rhode Island with nothing more than a pallet stage and a 100 watt amp for a PA...hosting local bands before they went on to be "legends' like Disrupt,Grief,Taste of Fear, etc and a million touring bands that came through before RI even had a real scene to speak of...16 years later we are still here..still supporting bands from all over the world that come through and we have lost none of our ethics or motivation since that time. So its really funny to me to read Mike Xs review of the night and even funnier that he posted to give "constructive critisism" after slagging the shit out of everyone. Well..heres some constructive critisim Mike...FUCK YOURSELF...get your head out of YOUR ass. I know everyone is allowed to have an opinion (sometimes I think this site should be renamed "Return to the Shit talk"but I actually have respect for the Rev and his hard work and i know its only a couple of cowardly internet warriors that usually talk shit)so Ill post mine now in response. The show started late because people were just starting to come in at 9pm and I wanted Throwing Shrapnel to have an actual audience when they played..they are good kids..and work as hard as every other band on the bill so I figured I'd try to stall a little. So I moved the gig up to 930pm. They were great by the way too..best time Ive seen them yet. I Destroyer had problems from the get go...our bass amp caught on fire a minute into the set...it was tough to regroup. As far as Sting like 20 minute rants...bullshit...I only do that with DropDead(haha)...and I know I said very little at that gig... I have our set recorded and we played for less than 30 minutes minus the bass rig fire. Saying shit like we were "disgraceful"or "totally disrespectful" is absolute bullshit and sounds like a personal thing to me... I suggest maybe you have the balls to say it to my face next time...but like all pussy assed internet slaggers..you wont. Your review sounds more like you had your monthly "flow" and you couldnt take being up past the ungodly hour of 11pm than anything else. For future reference...PVD/Olneyville DIY shows are notoriously late starters...it isnt uncommon for shows to start as late as 11pm down there. One of the reasons is that we are trying to avoid the cops...the other is that Olneyvillains just dont come out early to shows..regardless of how many times we try to get things started early. It is what it is..and we try to do the best we can under the circumstance. Sometimes we have gear breakdowns...sometimes we have overly long set ups but shit happens...and we try to get through it the best we can. AGAIN..we are NOT a NIGHTCLUB.We dont have a crew of pro soundmen and $10.000 gear to work with. So if your gonna be a baby bitch and cry that your all tired for work the next time...and its past your bedtime....drink a fucking Redbull or better yet...dont come. Olneyville doesnt work on the time table alot of places work on...if anything it reminds me alot of the underground scene in Europe where I have literally gone onstage at 4am many, many times...or CBGBS when the last time Dropdead played we went on at 3am. Sorry...thats the way it is...and the bands who play here know what to expect. It is NEVER meant to be disrespectful. The upside is that EVERY band that played last night told me that other than the "late factor"...Redrum/Chris Abomb gave them one of the best/most respectful gigs of the tour. So I guess Ill actually take the bands review of the night over xMikexs because in the ends they are who matters to me. I have a great idea Mike..how about you start your own DIY space and we'll all sit back and see how you carry the torch. But I'm betting its easier for you to just keep supporting the big clubs/promoters that constantly rip bands off and whos only motivation is to profit from bands blood, sweat and years. I refuse to do that...and I will continue to do things on a DIY basis with as much respect and hard work as we ALWAYS give to all the bands that come through. Things dont always run smooth...but they always run...and I think 16 years in is a pretty good record so far....lets see what you got to put up Mike. There are those that DO..and those who sit back and criticize, its always the same. Thanks to all the people who came last night and supported the DIY/extreme music scene and Redrum...we will continue to persevere and you can expect alot more this summer.
