when I got in there both suffocation and the photopasses were MIA. I met a kid who shoots for http://www.metalzine.com who was also waiting there (though they pronounce it z-eyen instead of zeen). thankfully, the girl at the door fixed things and got the photo passes the minute that aborted started.

aborted: as always, they rocked. they played mostly stuff off of goremageddon which I don't really know as well as the other CDs. they spoke french too.. d'uh, belgium so I didn't know what they were saying between all the songs. Jon from dehumanized was the one that took up the job of driving them.

despised icon: spoke french too, but I think they are in their home town here. if you haven't heard them, their CDs come out more like deathmetal live. there are a couple slam parts and they have two singers. one of which does deathmetal gutterals and the other does more hardcore midranges. they were the only band that jumped into the crowd. both singers went down there.

vader: I was really surprised at the response from the crowd. they slammed around and screamed out requests. from up above, there was ever a circle pit for part of their set. I know that sometimes, their set can fall upon deaf ears from the crowd and people just stand there doing nothing, but not here in montreal. there wasn't just headbanging, there was a lot of movement down there. they ended their set out with a cover of reign in blood. people pretty much sprinted from their drinking posts to the crowd.

cryptopsy: since suffocation was MIA, cryptopsy went on. it took them over 40 minutes to set up... and then their set was only about 40 minutes. I was up front waiting for the entire time. the long set up time it probably the reason that they had that guy do the stand up comedian the last time. the curtain was drawn up so you couldn't see what they were doing. finally, they came out and lord worm spoke french like a teacher, mixed with english. I couldn't understand the french at all... so I have no idea what he was saying. they played a majority of new songs, but played a bunch of old ones... including on from "and then you'll beg" which lord worm dedicated to himself (thought he hated that CD) called back to the worms. through out their set, they were handing set lists into the audience. while I was shooting in front of the stage, someone jumped over the barricade and jumped up on stage right over my camera. then the dove into the crowd. the security grabbed him and tried to toss him out, but it took three of them a couple minutes to get him out. they have a nu-guitar player. he moved around like he was in a nu-metal band (sort of like the new bassplayer for adolf satan if you know what I mean). their set ended with a one song encore and then they were done. I think it was cause of suffocation's arrival. as soon as they ended, it looked like 1/2 the crowd headed for the door.

suffocation: they set up quickly behind the stage infront of the cryptopsy set up. after a few minutes, the boys from NY came out. I was really tired at this point, but got back into it when they started. the crowd looked a bit empty when they start, it filled right in. they ran around the stage a bunch trying to pump the crowd back up. it worked. during their set the crowd thrashed about and frank said that montreal is their home away from home. it brought a little bit of NY slam into the crisp canadian air and showed them a view of the enviroment that has spawned skinless, clitorture, mucopus, and hemorrahegae.

montreal crowds are wierd, the minute the bands end, they head towards the stairs and go up to the top floor. no clue why... but they go to do something.
